CUBA & NON-PROLIFERATION REGIMES
(Documents in English and Spanish)

Current Foreign Ministry position statements on non-proliferation

Cuban Positions on NPT

Reasons why Cuba would not join NPT:

  1. Discriminatory. Guarantees nuclear monopoly of certain states, thereby violating principle of equality of states.
  2. Insufficient. Has not eliminated nuclear weapons. US is major obstacle. Need for a Multilateral Convention on the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
  3. Cuba’s civilian nuclear installations were voluntarily submitted to IAEA verification, strengthened by Cuba’s signature of an Additional Protocol (first non-signatory to the NPT to accede to the Protocol).
