From 2002 -Ambassador Amano was appointed Director General for Arms Control and Scientific Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was named Ambassador in April 2002. 2001-2002- Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, and Visiting Scholar at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Ambassador Amano served on the UN group of governmental experts on missiles and the UN group of governmental experts on disarmament and nonproliferation education.
