Graduated from Graduate School of the English Department, Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1965. Before taking the current position, he was Director of Division of International Politics and Vice President of China Institute of international Studies. He also served as Political Counselor and Ministry-Counselor in the Chinese Embassy in the United States. He was a visiting scholar at the Stanford University Center for International Security and Cooperation and the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London. His research interests include the US diplomacy and defense, international security, disarmament and arms control, Asia-Pacific security, relations between the US and USSR (Russia), and Sino-US relations.
