MOSCOW, JULY 9, 2014. PIR PRESS – “On the international arena Russia actively participates in the discussion on international legal and practical steps aimed at deterring corruption and other financial crimes. Its latest FATF presidency was particularly remarkable. Russia emphasizes implementation of the G-20 Anti-corruption program and other decisions in this field made at the G-20 summit in Saint-Petersburg in September 2013”, – PIR Center President Vladimir Orlov.

On July 1, 2014 took place the first meeting of the Expert Council on the Corruption Prevention under the Directorate for Corruption Prevention at the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation. PIR Center President Dr. Vladimir Orlov took part in the meeting as a member of the Council.

The meeting was chaired by the Head of Directorate for Corruption Prevention Oleg Plokhoi, In his statement Mr. Plokhoi underlined that “the Council aims to become socio-political link between the authorities and society”.

The agenda of the meeting was focused on anti-corruption public awareness campaign. According to the 2014-2015 president national anti-corruption plan, the nongovernmental organizations are the one to play the key role in this campaign.

In his speech Vladimir Orlov stressed that Russia should take more efforts to become the subject rather than object of anti-corruption awareness campaign, more so in the CIS countries where Russia can show its leadership through the educational programs. PIR Center President noted a number of the CIS countries which were already running anti-corruption trainings and where Russia could present its policies with more assertiveness.

At the same time, according to Vladimir Orlov, “on the international arena Russia actively participates in the discussion on international legal and practical steps aimed at deterring corruption and other financial crimes. Its latest FATF presidency was particularly remarkable. Russia emphasizes implementation of the G-20 Anti-corruption program and other decisions in this field made at the G-20 summit in Saint-Petersburg in September 2013”.

Dr. Orlov also suggested devoting one of the Council meetings to discuss the strategy of the Russian Federation to promote globally the understanding of corruption as an international security threat.
