PIR Center executives joined Expert Council of the Russian Government

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 29, 2014. PIR PRESS – “We have a good expert team. The work of the Council is not highly publicized, yet exceptionally important, and the entire Government, its individual ministries and agencies appreciate all of the expert support that you have shown us”, – Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev.

On September 11, 2014, an updated  list of members of the Expert Council of the Russian Government was officially published. According to the protocol of the extension of the Expert Council, signed by the Minister for Open Government Mikhail Abyzov, the number of Council members grew from 193 to 366. The Director of the PIR Center, Vladimir Orlov and the Vice President of the PIR Center, Dmitry Polikanov joined the Council in its new composition.

The Expert Council is an advisory body of the Government of the Russian Federation in accordance with the “Open Government” system.  It was created in 2012 in order to ensure both the participation of the expert community in the process of preparing and implementing decisions of the Government and Federal Executive Bodies, as well as public control over the activities of the Federal Executive Bodies. 

According to Vladimir Orlov, the experts of the PIR Center have much to contribute to the work of the Council. “We are prepared to participate in evaluating the new challenges of sustainable development in Russia, to engage all our knowledge and international contacts accumulated over two decades. We will be glad to provide independent and unbiased expertise on key national issues”, – noted the Director of the PIR Center.

Within the current structure of the Expert Council of the Government of the Russian Federation exist more than 20 working groups, which cover key areas of development in Russia.

Speaking at the meeting of the Expert Council, the Chairman of the Russian Government, Dmitry Medvedev noted the important contribution of Council members to the work of the Executive: “We have a good expert team. The work of the Council is not highly publicized, yet exceptionally important, and the entire Government, its individual ministries and agencies appreciate all of the expert support that you have shown us”.
