On April 12, 2016, a round table “Common misconceptions about international security” took place within the framework of MGIMO Science days. The PIR Center’s experts, students and lecturers of the MGIMO and The Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation were involved in the discussion.

In his presentation "Red button" and the Big Brother: who and how controls the global Internet” PIR Center Consultant Oleg Demidov spoke on the architecture of the global Internet and answered the question if it was possible to shut down the Internet in a particular region or worldwide. "Russia and Nuclear Nonproliferation" Program Director Andrey Baklitskiy made a presentation “Iran’s missiles and North Korea’s bombs: myths and realities of nuclear non-proliferation”. In his statement, the expert touched on the topic of practicability of the intercontinental ballistic missile programs in the non-nuclear weapon countries. He also talked on the limitations that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action imposes on Iranian missile program.

The round table featured the reports made by the students of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy of the MGIMO University Olesya Rybkina and Boris Belozerov. The speakers told the audience about the markets for the oil, produced in the regions controlled by ISIL (the terrorist organization forbidden in Russia), and about the future of the hydrocarbon energy sector in the period of low oil prices and rapid development of new technologies.
