Dmitry Evstafiev

Dr. Dmitry Evstafiev is a Senior Research Associate at
the PIR Center, Editor of PIR Study Papers: Russia's and Global Security and Yaderny Kontrol Journal,
and Director of the Program "Russian Domestic Politics & Security".
Born in 1966, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of History at the
Institute for Asian and African Studies at the Moscow State University in
1989. In 1993, Evstafiev defended his doctoral thesis in Political
Sciences at the Department of Military-Political Studies, USA and Canada
Studies Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. From 1992-1995, Dr.
Evstafiev held the positions of Junior Research Fellow and then Research
Fellow at the USA and Canada Studies Institute. From 1995-1998, he held
the post of Senior Research Fellow and later Leading Research Fellow at
Russia's Institute for Strategic Studies; he is also an Assistant Editor
of the "New Russia" journal (formerly "Soviet Union"
journal) and a chief of the editing board of the "Deti Feldmarshala"
(Field-Marshal's Children) journal. Evstafiev has co-authored two books,
and published several papers in Russia and abroad. He has written many
articles for publication in newspapers and scientific and political
journals within Russia. Current research interests include the
military-political aspects of Russia's national security; the foreign and
military policy of the USA; crisis decision making and conflict management;
and the military-political specifics of the conflicts in post-Soviet
Eurasia.
