PIR CENTER RESEARCH COUNCILThe Research Council was formed in February 1998 to provide additional expertise for the PIR Center`s studies and to raise the quality of the Center`s published materials. It was also envisaged that the Research Council would hold formal discussions on the most pressing international security issues and discuss and evaluate the Center`s ongoing and future research projects. The Research Council consists of more than 50 Russian and foreign policymakers, scientists, and military officials who are professionally involved in international security matters, especially in the field of arms control. The Research Council is comprised of three types of members: individual, associate (government officials), and corporate (research institutions and organizations). For example, the following are corporate members of the Research Council: the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF), the Kurchatov Institute-Russian National Center, the Moscow State University for Foreign Relations, and the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI). Members of the Research Council conduct expert evaluation of the PIR research and publications, give consultations to the PIR staff, review the manuscripts and research projects.
