NUCLEAR RUSSIA DATABASE

The Nuclear Russia database is being developed as one of the PIR Center's set of information projects, to provide PIR Center staff with the necessary information resources and an advanced search system. Concerned organizations in Russia and abroad can request authorization to access some of these informational resources.

The main language of the database is Russian. Some English elements are also incorporated. The database contains information and analytical material from Russian national and regional mass media, public sources of the State Duma and the Council of the Federation, certain ministries and agencies, etc.

The topics covered by the database are reflected in its title. It contains material directly or indirectly relating to Russia and various nuclear issues, above all (but not limited to) nuclear arms issues, nuclear policy, nuclear safety and security, nuclear materials and their physical protection, accounting and control, spent nuclear fuel, nuclear export, export controls, unauthorized access to nuclear materials, nuclear terrorism, nuclear technologies, and dual-use technologies. The database includes material on Minatom, closed nuclear cities, Russian Strategic Missile Forces activities, the situation regarding the Russian nuclear fleet as well as matters relating to nuclear weapons delivery systems.

The database became operational since November 2000 for the PIR staff and Research Council members. Access to all other organizations concerned will be provided starting from November 2001.
