“Nuclear power development in Central Asia seems to be rather promising. The countries in the region are among the biggest world uranium exporters. They possess relatively large reserves of uranium and its advanced mining technologies. The countries of the region have maintained experience in operating research reactors that they inherited from the Soviet Union's nuclear complex. They also have qualified personnel in the field of nuclear energy,” PIR Center intern Galia Ibragimova.

«United States and Russia should build a non-governmental joint group on nuclear nonproliferation. Such a group should become a watchdog which would react both at success stories and at failures on implementation of gov-to-gov agreements, with critiques, public statements, and policy recommendations, in order to help fix the problems and find new opportunities for bilateral cooperation,” PIR Center President Dr. Vladimir A. Orlov.

“The attempted arms smuggling is a gross violation of the UN international embargo on arms procurement from North Korea. As the plane was heading to Ukraine and had been chartered by a Ukrainian company, we can assume that the cargo was destined for Southern Sudan,” - Vadim Kozyulin, Director of PIR Center Conventional Arms Project.
