STEIN AM RHEIN, 12 OCTOBER 2009. PIR PRESS – “Development of nuclear energy is one of the keys to solving economic tasks in the country. Russia also intends to strengthen its positions on nuclear energy markets where it is already present, while aspiring to actively expand the geography of its nuclear exports,” – PIR Center President Vladimir Orlov.
President of the PIR Center Vladimir Orlov gave presentation to the participants of the Stein am Rhein Symposium (stars) “Fit for the Future – Challenges and Choices 2020.” This symposium gathered 80 representatives from business, science and art from Asia, Europe, Latin America etc. The main goal of stars is to bring together the young generation of future world leaders, to prepare them to multifaceted challenges of globalization, to answer the question “What it means to be a worthy leader of the future?”
Besides Dr. Vladimir Orlov the following experts gave presentations to the participants of stars: Dr. Hans-Ulrich Doerig, Chairman of Credit Suisse Group AG, Zurich, Switzerland; Robert Milligan, Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington D.C., USA; Prof. Hiroshi Watanabe, President and CEO of JBIC Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Tokyo, Japan; Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Chairman of the Board of Nestlé S.A., Vevey, Switzerland; Prof. Dr. Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, Singapore; etc.
Dr. Orlov met and held discussions with Dr. Toni Schönenberger, CEO of UBS Wolfsberg, Chairman of the Board of stars; Rosmarie Widmer Gysel, Government President of the Canton of Schaffhausen; Calvin Grieder, chairman of the Executive Board of Buhler AG, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Geberit, Günter F. Kelm, etc. During his trip, Vladimir Orlov visited the UBS bank “Wolfsberg” corporate training center.
In his presentation, President of the PIR Center touched upon Russia's foreign policy strategy, priorities in Russia's development till 2020. In particular, he noted: “Preservation and development of nuclear technologies is the second priority among the five priorities of Russian modernization announced by President Medvedev. Development of nuclear energy is one of the keys to solving economic tasks in the country. Russia also intends to strengthen its positions on nuclear energy markets where it is already present, while aspiring to actively expand the geography of its nuclear exports. Expansion to new nuclear markets in addition to economic interest is in accordance with Russia's foreign policy aspirations to strengthen or restore its positions in the range of regions, from Middle East to Latin America.”
