Lieutenant-General (Retired), Ph.D. Military Sciences. In the Armed Services since 1968. Graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages, M.V. Frunze Military academy. 1976-1992 – served in different positions in the General Staff of the USSR and RF . From 1992 to 2002 – served in positions of: Senior Officer, Deputy Head of Direction, Head of Direction, Deputy Head of Department, Head of the International Treaties Department of  the Russian Ministry of Defense. Promoted to the rank of Major-General in 2000, to the rank of Lt.-General – in 2003. In 2002 he was appointed on the position of Head of the International Treaties Department – Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense. Retired from active duty in 2009. In 2009-2017 - PIR Center Consultant, then Senior vice-president. PIR Center's Chairman of the Executive Board since 2014. From 2016 – leading research fellow and Head of Center for Applied Political-Military Research of School of World Politics, M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University.  Deputy CEO of "Vega Radio Engineering Corporation" from  2009 to 2018. Masters of Science in Information Technology and Masters of Science in Strategic Studies. In May of 2002, he was appointed as the Head of the Political Department at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, DC. From 2004 till 2005, he served as an International Fellow at the Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. In 2006 he has established Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS). Under his leadership, CAPS has become one of the leading research and advocacy centres in Afghanistan.   He currently serves as non-resident Senior Fellow at the East West Institute in Brussels, and Senior Fellow at the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) at the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Karzai has written extensively on Afghanistan, security (terrorism and insurgency), peace and reconciliation and his articles have been translated into many languages. Mr. Karzai was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan and in addition to English has native fluency in Pashto and Dari. He is also fluent in Urdu (Hindi)

Daniël Kooij was from April til September 2013 responsible for the Netherlands Rule of Law Program in Kunduz Province in the North of Afghanistan. After the end of the Netherlands mission he worked at the Netherlands Embassy in Kabul, where he was in addition working on the Financing and Sustainment of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).  Prior to the mission in Afghanistan, Daniël Kooij worked at the European Correspondents Office within the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the Netherlands Embassies in Islamabad, Madrid and Kinshasa (Congo). Daniël Kooij is currently seconded to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin.

Nicholas Williams had filled a series of policy and public communications posts in London and in NATO, including as speech writer to three NATO Secretary Generals. From 1997 to 1999 he was Assistant Director for Counter-terrorism in the British Ministry of Defence. From 2000 - 2003 he was attached to the policy directorate of the French Ministry of Defence where he was responsible for developing NATO-EU relations and Franco-British defence cooperation. In November 2009, he completed two and a half years in Afghanistan working with ISAF, first as political adviser to ISAF forces in the south, based in Kandahar, and latterly as Deputy NATO Senior Representative in Kabul. During his career he has worked extensively in conflict and post conflict countries, both Iraq and the Balkans. He is an experienced specialist in the field of security issues and conflict resolution.
