ABRAMTSEVO, AUGUST 31, 2015. PIR PRESS — “The fifteenth International school on global security is taking place in the lead-up to the seventieth session of the UN and is included among the events planned by the Russian public committee for the observance of that occasion.  We are holding this school in Russian, which not just formally, but practically should remain a language for discussion of key questions on global development.  We ourselves are ready to share our knowledge, and we are eagerly awaiting interaction with our colleagues who have gathered in Abramtsevo” – Vladimir Orlov, Special advisor to PIR Center and the Head of the Center for Global Trends and International Organizations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Fifteenth International School on Global Security opened, in the evening on August 30, 2015 in the village of Abramtsevo (Moscow Region), and on August 31, the educational program began.

The school is organised by the PIR Center and the Center for Global Trends and International Organizations of the Institute of Contemporary International Studies at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

24 young specialists have come to the school from Azerbaijan, Armenia, China, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the US and Ukraine. The participants of the school represent diplomatic and military agencies, companies, research centers and universities.

Among the school’s thematic blocks are the study of global security, nonproliferation and arms control, information security and internet governance, and Russian foreign policy in the context of transforming system of international relations.  The participants will separately touch on discussion of regional security challenges in CIS countries. The school’s program includes lectures, seminars, round tables, professional communication training, tours and meetings with Russian intellectuals.

In his opening speech, Special Advisor to PIR Center and the Head of the Center for Global Trends and International Organizations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Orlov noted: “The fifteenth International school on global security is taking place in the lead-up to the seventieth session of the UN and is included among the events planned by the Russian public committee for the observance of that occasion. We are holding this school in Russian, which not just formally, but practically should remain a language for discussion of key questions on world development.  We ourselves are ready to share our knowledge, and we are eagerly awaiting interaction with our colleagues who have gathered in Abramtsevo”.

Director of PIR Center Albert Zulkharneev pointed out that “without knowledge about each other and the object of discussion, understanding is impossible.  Recently, the desire to prove something to each other in the arena of propaganda has pushed out constructive dialogue.  Our task is to make sure young professionals have the tools necessary for thoughtful, professional discussion of complex questions on peace and security.”
