“The seminar on BRICS, SCO, CSTO, which was held within the framework of the XX Annual International School on Global Security, allowed to combine two scientific and educational formats of the PIR Center – Midweek Brainstorming sessions and the School. High research potential of the School participants, their erudition, and nonstandard perspectives allowed to work on the most thorny provisions of the PIR Center’s report on BRICS expansion. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with School participants in this area and other issues,” – Sergey Semenov, PIR Center’s Nonproliferation & Russia Program Coordinator.

«Considering various challenges, the international community is facing in the nuclear sector, the nuclear nonproliferation regime based on the NPT is going through tough times. Nevertheless, it is remarkable that there are still not more than ten nuclear powers. Notwithstanding the concerns of the creeping proliferation of nuclear weapons as expressed by J.F. Kennedy more than five decades ago, we can consider that the NPT, by and large,is fulfilling its functions, albeit with occasional setbacks. While the NPT continues to be the basis of the regime, no potential alternatives for the treaty are likely to be seen in the short run,» maintains one of the winners of the 2018 International School on Global Security, associate professor of the Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management Gleb Toropchin.

«The PIR Center and MGIMO have managed to collect some of the foremost experts in the field of nonproliferation from the Russian Federation. We had an opportunity to talk with these people one on one and ask our own personal questions, which is an opportunity I’d never thought I’d have. It has been incredible!» - Noa Mahew, student of the Dual Degree Program in Nonproliferation Studies.

"The School gives the opportunity to gain knowledge on the most topical issues of international security, to meet the leading Russian and foreign experts, establish useful contacts and networks, which will come in handy in the future. The practice of offsite schools with the international team of participants and lecturers is undoubtedly worth continuing; experience, gained in the School, is priceless "- Vladimir Kim, post-graduate student, Moscow State University.

"Today, solving practical issues of security we are confronted with fundamental issues of human nature, society, politics and law. Under these conditions, it is important for an expert to be able to go beyond one’s field. Therefore, in the school, we bring together scientists, diplomats, military officers, nuclear scientists, and lawyers, so that in the course of combined trainings and by communicating with each other and with key experts, participants and the organizers of the School open new opportunities for themselves and their activities", - Albert Zulkharneev, Director, PIR Center.
